XELA Robotics, a leading specialist in advanced 3D tactile sensors, has made significant strides in enhancing its uSkin sensor family. The enhancements aim to improve performance and versatility in various industrial applications. Set to be showcased at the upcoming Robotics Summit & Expo in Boston, these advancements are expected to benefit customers worldwide.
One key development is the implementation of magnetic interference compensation (MIC) technology. This feature enables XELA’s uSkin sensors to effectively filter out complex magnetic interference from nearby magnets or ferromagnetic materials. Such interference can be a challenge in factories handling iron and other metals, as well as when working with specialized parts like magnetic clips.
The MIC technology goes beyond the prior add-on option, which removed most magnetic interference but left room for strong, small magnets nearly touching the sensors. With the new enhancement, XELA’s uSkin sensors can now accurately detect and filter out even more types of magnetic interference, ensuring reliable performance in a wide range of industrial settings.
The second significant development from XELA Robotics is the integration of CAN FD (Controller Area Network Flexible Data-Rate), a modern high-speed communication protocol. This enables the use of multiple sensor modules on the same data line without compromising frequency due to increased data transfer rates and larger payloads.
CAN FD allows for the handling of more sensor modules simultaneously, reducing the risk of sensor overload caused by excessive sensing points being activated at the same time. The new protocol also increases the payload size (frames can hold up to 64 bytes instead of the 8-byte limit in CAN), further increasing overall efficiency and reliability.
The U.S. is a critical market for XELA Robotics, and the company has been listening closely to customer needs. Reducing magnetic interference and supporting more sensors on a robotic hand or gripper without sacrificing frequency were high on the list. These enhancements answer those requests directly, benefiting customers across Asia and Europe as well.
The integration of CAN FD technology opens up new possibilities for form factors, enabling XELA’s improved sensors and microcontrollers to be used in more diverse applications. This includes faster measurement rates, reaching 500 Hz even with increased sensor density.
XELA Robotics is committed to addressing evolving customer needs, both in Asia and Europe. The company has been actively engaging with industry experts and gathering feedback to develop solutions that cater to specific requirements and challenges.
The enhancements announced by XELA Robotics will be showcased at the Robotics Summit & Expo, taking place on May 27 and 28 in Boston. The event brings together leading companies and innovators in the robotics industry, providing a platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and discovering the latest advancements in commercial robotics development.
Registration is now open for the event, which promises to deliver more than 50 sessions across various tracks on topics such as artificial intelligence, design and development, enabling technologies, healthcare, and logistics. The Engineering Theater on the show floor will feature presentations by industry experts, providing an opportunity for attendees to learn from the best in the field.
The event includes a range of networking opportunities, including a Mix & Mingle Networking Reception after the first day of the show, as well as limited tickets available for the Women in Robotics Breakfast and the RBR50 Robotics Innovation Awards Gala.
Co-located with DeviceTalks Boston, which focuses on medical devices, the Robotics Summit & Expo highlights the growing importance of robotics in various industries, including healthcare and logistics, where precision and efficiency are crucial.
XELA Robotics continues to push the boundaries of tactile sensing technology, its commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction unwavering. With these enhancements, the company is poised to expand its market presence and solidify its position as a leader in the robotics industry.
The Robotics Summit & Expo promises to be an exciting event, bringing together experts, innovators, and industry leaders to share knowledge, showcase advancements, and forge new connections. Attendees can look forward to experiencing the latest developments from XELA Robotics and exploring the vast expanse of commercial robotics development.
