MidJourney, the AI image generator with over 19 million users, has unveiled a Pinterest-inspired “Moodboards” feature and support for multiple custom AI image models, aiming to streamline the creative process for individuals and teams. The new Moodboards allow users to upload curated collections of images that serve as inspiration for generating new art. The AI model adapts to the diversity and complexity of the uploaded images, creating a unique style profile that remixes the visual elements.
This feature is particularly beneficial for those working on multiple projects or collaborating with others, as it enables seamless integration of personalized styles across various projects. By allowing users to upload curated collections of images, Midjourney’s Moodboards provide a more intuitive and creative way to generate art, making it easier for users to develop a distinctive style profile.
In addition to Moodboards, Midjourney has introduced support for multiple personalization profiles, allowing users to create and switch between multiple custom versions of the AI model. This means users can now tailor their unique aesthetics to specific projects, making it easier to maintain consistency across different creative endeavors. With the ability to create and switch between multiple profiles, users can now work on multiple projects simultaneously, each with its own distinct style profile.
The updates also include a fivefold improvement in image ranking speed, making it easier for users to set up custom models. The “ranking” system is how Midjourney trains a custom model on behalf of the user, and users now need just 40 ratings to begin creating a profile, with optimal stability achieved at 200. This streamlined process lowers the barrier to entry for new users, making it more accessible for those looking to explore the platform’s creative capabilities.
Furthermore, Midjourney has introduced organizational improvements, allowing users to name their profiles, designate one or multiple profiles as defaults, and track all images associated with specific profiles. This feature is particularly useful for those juggling multiple projects or collaborating with others, as it enables better organization and management of creative assets.
David Holz, founder of Midjourney, shared the announcement on the company’s Discord server, highlighting the motivation behind the updates. He expressed a desire to make personalization accessible for a broader range of creative workflows, allowing users to take control of their projects while maintaining the flexibility to work with diverse creative teams.
As Midjourney continues to refine its personalization infrastructure, the company is soliciting user feedback through its “ideas-and-features” channel. These developments highlight the platform’s commitment to empowering creators with tools that are both intuitive and powerful, marking another step forward in the evolution of AI-assisted creativity.
The additions come as expected following Midjourney’s announcement last week of an experimental new collaborative image making whiteboard feature called Patchwork. This feature, which enables users to create and share collaborative images, further solidifies Midjourney’s position as a leader in the AI-assisted creativity space.
