Unleash The Power: Framework Laptop 16 Gets A Game-Changing Modular Upgrade For Just 39

The Framework Laptop 16 has finally taken the leap into the world of modular upgrades with the release of the “Dual M.2 Adapter,” a $39 accessory that unlocks the potential for quadruple SSDs and a plethora of possibilities. This innovative addition to the laptop’s design takes advantage of the large expansion bay located at the back, which was initially left empty at launch.

Initially, users had two options: the Radeon RX 7700S discrete graphics card, which added a significant boost to performance, or the empty bay that only contained fans. However, with the introduction of the Dual M.2 Adapter, users can now fill that bay with an additional pair of M.2 2280, 2260, 2240, or 2230 modules, each boasting four lanes of PCIe 4.0. The existing twin SSD slots (M.2 2280 and M.2 2230) that come with the laptop can now be complemented by these new modules, allowing users to potentially store an astonishing 26TB of data.

This is not to mention the additional storage options available through the Framework Expansion Cards and the $25 full-size SD card modules, which can accommodate 2TB SD cards, effectively increasing the maximum capacity of the Framework Laptop 16 to a staggering 38TB. The flexibility to upgrade and customize the laptop’s storage capacity is a significant advantage, making it an attractive option for users who require high-capacity storage.

While users who purchased the Radeon discrete GPU may need to swap it out to take advantage of the Dual M.2 Adapter, the process is surprisingly quick and easy. However, it’s worth noting that Framework has also made a change to the laptop’s liquid metal cooling system, swapping it out for Honeywell PTM7958 thermal paste. This change is intended to address potential “performance degradation over time,” but users may notice uncomfortable levels of heat and fan noise during initial use.

The introduction of the Dual M.2 Adapter marks a significant milestone in Framework’s commitment to modular upgrades, and it’s clear that the company is dedicated to providing users with the flexibility and customization options they crave. With this latest addition, the Framework Laptop 16 has cemented its position as one of the most ambitious and innovative laptops on the market, offering users a unique blend of performance, flexibility, and customization.
