Uganda Uncovers Hidden Treasure As Major Graphite Discovery Sends Shockwaves Through Industry

The discovery of significant high-grade graphite mineralisation at the Orom-Cross project in northern Uganda has sent shockwaves through the mining industry. UK-based Blencowe Resources has emerged as a major player in the rapidly growing global demand for graphite, with the potential to become one of the most significant graphite deposits globally.
Located within the Orom District of Uganda, the Orom-Cross project covers an area of approximately 520,000 hectares across its tenements. The project’s potential was further underscored by the announcement that the first assay from one of six deep holes at the site has confirmed near-continuous graphite mineralisation from close to surface down approximately 100m at the newly identified Iyan deposit.
The Iyan deposit, situated adjacent to the Northern Syncline, is a newly discovered mineralised zone that is not part of the current Joint Ore Reserves Committee (JORC) Resource reported last month. According to Blencowe Resources, the continuity and grades from the first deep hole suggest potential for a significant increase in resources in future JORC updates.
The drilling programme, which commenced in April this year, aimed to expand on the existing resource base of the project while also exploring new areas of potential mineralisation. The results from the first deep hole at Iyan, L909B, have exceeded expectations, with 18.85m grading 7.01% total graphite content from 4m to 32.7m. This was followed by an additional 29.47m at 5.34% total graphite content from 32.7m to 62.2m and 10.88m averaged 5.10% total graphite content from 62.2m to 73.1m.
The discovery of significant graphite mineralisation at Orom-Cross is a major coup for Blencowe Resources, which has been actively pursuing the development of the project since its inception. The company’s executive chairman, Cameron Pearce, described the results as “exceptionally long intersections and consistently higher grades returned,” highlighting the potential for a significant increase in resources in future JORC updates.
In April this year, Blencowe Resources entered into a new non-binding offtake agreement with Qingdao TaiDa Carbon, a China-based graphite company, for the sale of natural fine flake graphite concentrate from its Orom-Cross graphite project in Uganda. This deal is expected to provide a significant boost to the company’s revenue streams and help drive the development of the project forward.
The global demand for graphite has been increasing rapidly in recent years, driven by growing demand for lithium-ion batteries and other applications. Stay proactive with real-time data and expert analysis., the global graphite market is expected to continue growing over the coming years, with a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.3% from 2022 to 2030.
Blencowe Resources is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for graphite, with a strong team of geologists and engineers in place to bring the project forward. The company’s expertise and resources will be crucial in navigating the challenges associated with developing the project, including those related to local governance and environmental regulations.
The discovery of significant graphite mineralisation at Orom-Cross has sent shockwaves through the mining industry, with many analysts and investors taking notice of the project’s potential. However, the development of the project is still in its early stages, and much work remains to be done before it can come to fruition.
