Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering) has made a significant move towards commercializing unmanned cargo drones with the introduction of its largest aircraft to date, the DrN-600. This cutting-edge technology is poised to revolutionize last-mile delivery applications in underserved regions, providing a sustainable and efficient solution for transporting critical supplies.

The eight-meter wingspan and maximum take-off weight of 600 kilograms make it ST Engineering’s heaviest unmanned aircraft system to date. The company showcased its latest creation at the Singapore Airshow media preview on February 1, marking a major milestone in its unmanned air systems portfolio. This significant expansion demonstrates the company’s commitment to innovation and its desire to push the boundaries of what is possible with unmanned technology.

The DrN-600 features a front-loading compartment designed to accommodate standardized pallets, allowing for efficient loading and unloading operations for time-sensitive cargo. Powered by lithium polymer batteries, the electric unmanned aircraft achieves a range of 70 to 100 kilometers per flight, making it an ideal solution for last-mile delivery applications in underserved regions.

The DrN-600 is a testament to the power of collaboration between two industry leaders. Co-developed with US-based electric-aircraft manufacturer Air Inc., this unmanned aircraft system represents a significant step forward in the development of commercial cargo drones. Air Inc.’s expertise in electric propulsion systems has been instrumental in bringing the DrN-600 to life, combining their knowledge with ST Engineering’s extensive experience in unmanned air systems.

The duo has created an aircraft that is both efficient and reliable, with applications targeting underserved regions lacking traditional transport infrastructure such as islands and mountainous regions. ST Engineering has a long history of developing unmanned aircraft systems, dating back to 2018. This expertise has been showcased through various trials and partnerships, including its collaboration with Grab in January 2026 for drone deliveries of food across the Kallang River. In 2020, ST Engineering partnered with Foodpanda to test drone delivery of food to ships offshore, demonstrating the company’s ability to adapt and innovate within the unmanned air systems market.

The DrN-600 cargo drone is scheduled to commence test flights in the second quarter of 2026, with commercial operations planned to begin in 2028 pending regulatory approvals.
