Scientists have successfully spun the web-slinging abilities of Marvel’s iconic hero into reality. Marco Lo Presti, a research assistant professor in biomedical engineering at Tufts University’s Silklab, has created a strong, sticky air-spun web that can be used for remote adhesives.
Lo Presti’s journey began in 2020, working on underwater adhesives as part of his research on biomolecules. During an experiment with silk and dopamine, he stumbled upon a peculiar substance resembling a fiber, which led him to collaborate with Fiorenzo Omenetto, professor of engineering at Tufts and the “puppeteer” of the Silklab.
