Spain Unveils Revolutionary Ai Push With 70M Investment At Mobile World Congress

Spain Takes Bold Step towards Efficient AI with $70M Investment at Mobile World Congress 2025
The Spanish government has announced a significant investment of $70 million in Multiverse Computing, a quantum computing software company based in Spain. This strategic partnership aims to further develop compression software that makes AI more efficient and reduces operating costs, positioning Spain as a global leader in energy-efficient AI.
Oscar Lopez, Spain’s minister for digital transformation and the civil service, made the announcement at Mobile World Congress on Tuesday. As part of the deal, the Spanish government will become a shareholder in Multiverse Computing, underscoring its commitment to driving innovation in the field of AI.
Multiverse’s CompactifAI software is a game-changer in this regard. By shrinking AI algorithms to 10% of their original size, it enables them to use significantly less energy while maintaining high-quality results. This technology has far-reaching implications, allowing models to operate locally on smaller devices such as virtual reality glasses or smartphones, even when not connected to the internet.
The potential applications of this technology are vast and varied. For instance, healthcare institutions could use AI-powered systems to detect cognitive impairment in patients’ voices that may indicate an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Another example is the use of satellite images to forecast crop yields, which would be a significant boost to agriculture companies looking to optimize their operations.
The Spanish government has allocated $50 million for the integration of AI in healthcare companies. TartaglIA received $7.5 million to develop the UTILE platform that enables secure data sharing between health institutions through a federated training system. This technology has the potential to revolutionize patient care by ensuring that sensitive medical information remains confidential while still facilitating collaboration and research.
In addition, the Spanish government is investing in agriculture with $9.6 million for AgrarIA, a consortium of 24 partners that developed a platform to manage AI use cases along the entire value chain. This includes forecasting crop yields using satellite images, anticipating the number of trucks needed, and early detection of pests in tomatoes using drones or digital twin modeling.
A team led by Iberdrola has been allocated $12.8 million for AI projects that support the sustainable energy transition. Their work has developed over 60 use cases, including the development of AI-powered systems to detect approaching birds and prevent wind turbines from being damaged.
The Spanish government’s investment in Multiverse Computing is part of a broader effort to drive innovation in AI and its applications. As the world becomes increasingly dependent on technology, it is essential that we prioritize sustainability and efficiency. With this bold step forward, Spain is setting an exciting precedent for other countries to follow.
