Smart, a European-Chinese automaker co-owned by Mercedes and Geely, has sealed a strategic partnership with Chinese AI firm DeepRoute.ai to accelerate the deployment of autonomous vehicles. The collaboration will harness AI large-model technology and DeepRoute’s end-to-end algorithms to develop cutting-edge tech for Smart-badged cars.

The deal brings together two industry leaders in their respective fields, with Smart’s extensive network of dealerships across Europe and China complemented by DeepRoute’s expertise in developing AI-based solutions. The partnership will enable Smart cars to autonomously handle complex scenarios such as sharp turns, roundabouts, and roads without lane markings, enhancing overall safety and driving experience.

DeepRoute’s intelligent driving platform, DeepRoute IO, will be integrated into Smart’s vehicles, enabling advanced features like smart parking and improved maneuverability in diverse driving conditions. According to the company, its AI-based solution delivers “smarter, safer, and more reliable autonomous driving experiences” that are on par with human drivers.

The partnership is significant, as it allows DeepRoute to accelerate its technology development by leveraging Smart’s global presence and providing access to a vast array of driving scenarios. This will further optimize the tech, ensuring seamless deployment across various regions.

Maxwell Zhou, CEO at DeepRoute, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating that it enables the company to expedite the development of its latest intelligent driving technology while accelerating overseas road testing and deployment. The partnership with Smart marks a significant milestone in DeepRoute’s mission to pioneer autonomous driving solutions, which are set to be adopted by over 200,000 vehicles by the end of 2025.
