SkyDrive Achieves Historic G-1 Certification, Unveils First Real-Life Images of Its EVTOL Aircraft
Japanese eVTOL developer SkyDrive has officially received a G-1 certification in Japan for its flagship “SKYDRIVE” eVTOL aircraft, marking a significant milestone for the aviation industry. This achievement marks a major step forward for SkyDrive’s efforts to commercialize electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) operations in both Japan and the United States.
The company has made substantial investments in scaled eVTOL production, with Suzuki, a leading Japanese automaker, signing on to manufacture the aircraft in Japan. This partnership further solidifies SkyDrive’s collaboration with industry experts.
SkyDrive had announced plans for eVTOL certification in both the US and Japan earlier this year, but it was unclear when actual images of its flagship aircraft would be revealed. Today, the company has shared stunning real-life images of its 3-seat eVTOL in flight, showcasing the aircraft’s impressive capabilities and sleek design.
The G-1 certification basis from the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) is a major breakthrough for SkyDrive’s efforts to achieve type certification for its “SKYDRIVE” eVTOL aircraft. The company’s collaboration with JCAB has enabled it to develop a comprehensive testing schedule, paving the way for eVTOL ground and flight testing in Japan.
SkyDrive is working closely with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to validate a separate certification process for its “SKYDRIVE” eVTOL aircraft in the United States. According to Arnaud Coville, SkyDrive’s Chief Development Officer, substantial progress has been made on the validation project.
The company will unveil its flagship eVTOL at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, where it will also perform demonstration flights to the public. SkyDrive is optimistic about the year ahead, stating that 2025 has the potential to become an important year for the company.
With its G-1 certification and continued progress on eVTOL certification in both Japan and the US, SkyDrive is poised to make significant strides in the sustainable aviation segment. The company’s dedication to innovation and customer satisfaction will undoubtedly play a key role in shaping the future of urban air mobility.
