Skilled Technicians Needed To Fuel Drone Revolution

The production technician plays a vital role in bringing unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to life. SpektreWorks, a leading OEM of drones for defense customers, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented UAS Technician to join their team. This article delves into the world of UAS manufacturing, highlighting the key responsibilities, required qualifications, and preferred skills of this critical role.

The production technician’s primary responsibility is assembling Group 3 UAS platforms from components to fully functional systems. This involves manufacturing airframes, payloads, avionics, propulsion systems, and ground control equipment from raw materials or components, integrating individual components into a cohesive system according to engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and standard operating procedures, and performing functional checks, system-level integration, and ground testing of aircraft and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) to ensure systems meet specifications.

Wiring and mechanical integration are also critical aspects of UAS manufacturing. The technician must build wiring harnesses according to engineering drawings, ensuring all connections are reliable and meet project specifications. They also perform soldering and crimping using hand tools or equipment to join electrical components together, following IPC standards for soldering and wire harnessing.

In addition to assembling the aircraft, production technicians troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and software issues during assembly and testing using instruments such as multimeters and oscilloscopes. They configure firmware and parameters, calibrate aircraft systems, and support functional checks to ensure systems are built to specification.

The technician works closely with engineering, production, and flight operations teams to ensure systems are built to specification and delivery timelines are met. This includes documenting assembly processes accurately, maintaining a clean and organized workspace for themselves and colleagues, and ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.

To succeed as a UAS Technician at SpektreWorks, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, with a strong foundation in technical drawing, mathematics, and physics. They should also have 2+ years of experience in UAS manufacturing, aerospace, aviation, or related technical manufacturing fields, and hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical assembly.

SpektreWorks values candidates with experience working with Group 2–3 UAS platforms, knowledge of composite airframe construction, IPC certification, and ERP system experience. They are also committed to work-life balance, offering an 8-hour shift with day shifts from Monday to Friday, and a competitive salary range of $24.00 – $31.00 per hour, depending on experience, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.

Joining the SpektreWorks team requires a passion for UAS manufacturing and a commitment to quality and precision. With the right skills and experience, candidates can play a critical role in bringing cutting-edge technology to defense customers worldwide.
