Samsung Unveils Super Hdr Feature To Tame Glaring Screens

Samsung’s One UI 7 update is now in beta, bringing a long-awaited solution for those tired of HDR content’s harsh glare. The “Super HDR” feature allows Galaxy phone owners to take control of their display brightness, ensuring a more comfortable viewing experience across all apps.
HDR has become a staple of modern smartphones, showcasing the impressive dynamic range capabilities of these devices’ displays. However, it can sometimes be overwhelming – especially at night. Increased contrast and color gamut in HDR content can result in eye-searing highlights that make it difficult to relax and enjoy your phone’s visuals.
To address this issue, Samsung has introduced a system-wide toggle that enables users to disable HDR content across all apps. The Super HDR setting is located in the settings menu, where it will be available to those enrolled in the One UI 7 beta. When enabled, Super HDR will automatically adjust the display brightness and color balance to provide a more nuanced viewing experience without sacrificing any of the device’s impressive display capabilities.
This feature is particularly useful for those who prefer a more subtle visual presentation or have sensitive eyes that struggle with HDR’s intense highlights. In contrast, Apple’s iPhone users must navigate the limitations of their device’s HDR settings through more circuitous means – enabling low power mode comes with other system changes that may not be desirable for all users.
With Super HDR, Samsung provides an elegant solution allowing users to tailor their display experience to their individual preferences. As the smartphone landscape continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how other manufacturers respond to this feature and whether similar solutions from competitors become available in the future.
