Robotics Investment Surpasses 74 Billion As Waymo Lands Record-Breaking 56 Billion Raise

Robotics investments reached a record high of $7.4 billion in October 2024, with Waymo’s $5.6 billion raise leading the charge. This surpasses the previous record set in September 2024 by $3.7 billion.

Waymo, the autonomous driving technology pioneer, took the top spot with its significant funding round, which will enable it to further scale its robotaxi service providing 150,000-plus paid rides per week across several US cities. Other notable companies receiving substantial investment include WeRide ($320 million), Didi Woya ($298 million), Outrider ($62 million), and Vay ($37 million).

The dominance of autonomous driving technologies in October’s top investments is a testament to their growing importance in the industry. The geographical split of investments reveals that US-based companies received approximately $6.4 billion, while those in China secured around $873 million.

To understand robotics investments, it’s essential to establish a definition of terms and assumptions. Excluded are personal investments, government grants, and crowdsourced funding. The robotics industry is generating revenue from robotics products, hardware or software subsystems, and services supporting robotics devices. Autonomous vehicles and drones are considered robots in this context, while 3D printers and CNC systems are not.
