Ongwe Minerals Bolsters African Gold Presence With Record Land Expansion

Ongwe Minerals Expands Omatjete Gold Project Area in Namibia by 42% with Strategic Land Acquisition
Canada-based Ongwe Minerals has acquired an additional 36,600 hectares of land in Namibia’s Omatjete project area, marking a substantial expansion of the company’s footprint in the region. The acquisition brings the total area under control to approximately 50 kilometers of strike along the Okondeka Fault Zone.
The acquisition is part of Ongwe Minerals’ ongoing efforts to unlock the full potential of its flagship projects in Namibia. The company has secured a 90% stake in the adjacent EPL7400 licence and has applied for the EPL11268 licence, which spans an additional 8,200 hectares. This strategic move not only enhances the company’s control over the Omatjete project but also provides significant opportunities for exploration and development.
Geologically, the Omatjete project area is of great interest due to its structural complexity and potential for hydrothermal gold-bearing fluids. Recent structural analysis has revealed new transfer structures and a parallel fault zone known as the Okakongo Fault System, which may serve as conduits for these fluids. This finding draws geological parallels with other significant local gold discoveries, such as the Kokoseb deposit, which contains an estimated 2.9 million ounces of gold.
The addition of EPL11268 to Ongwe Minerals’ licence portfolio has increased the company’s control over a highly prospective geological structure. Multiple granitic intrusions within the Okakongo Fault System add to its structural complexity and enhance its prospectivity, making it an attractive target for exploration and potential development.
Ongwe Minerals CEO David Underwood expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating that since the initial discovery of the Manga Gold Prospect, the company has been working hard behind the scenes to expand the licence package and cover the full extent of the highly prospective Okondeka Fault Zone. The prospect is characterized by a footprint measuring 4.5 kilometers × 1 kilometer with gold presence in soil samples. Preliminary drilling has indicated the existence of gold within the bedrock, highlighting the prospect’s potential for expansion.
The acquisition underscores Ongwe Minerals’ commitment to unlocking the full potential of its projects in Namibia. The company’s strategy is focused on exploring new areas with high-grade gold deposits and expanding its existing portfolio through strategic land acquisitions.
Ongwe Minerals has secured a significant land position in Namibia’s Northwest Damara Belt, which holds promise for future discoveries. The company holds a 90% stake in the adjacent EPL7400 licence and has applied for the EPL11268 licence, demonstrating its confidence in the region’s potential for gold discoveries.
In addition to Omatjete, Ongwe Minerals is developing two other main projects in Namibia: the Khorixas Project and the Outjo Project. The company holds a significant land position in the promising Northwest Damara Belt and has identified several high-grade gold deposits, including the Belmont Prospect, which covers an area of 12 kilometers × 6 kilometers.
The Khorixas Project is positioned along the same strike as Osino Resources’ Eureka Gold Discovery, sharing a similar geological environment. This proximity highlights the potential for cross-regional exploration and development opportunities within Ongwe Minerals’ portfolio.
Ongwe Minerals’ acquisition of additional licences in Namibia’s Omatjete project area represents a significant milestone in the company’s strategy to expand its presence in the African gold mining sector. The expansion provides new opportunities for exploration and development, underlining Ongwe Minerals’ commitment to unlocking the full potential of its projects in the region.
The company’s focus on Namibia’s gold-rich regions has been driven by the country’s favorable mining regulations, skilled workforce, and rich geological history. With a strong focus on exploration and development, Ongwe Minerals aims to become a significant player in Namibia’s gold mining sector.
