Nvidia’s Autonomous Vehicle Revolution Gains Momentum with Key Design Wins
At CES 2025, Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, unveiled the company’s latest strategic partnerships, solidifying its position as a leader in the autonomous vehicle industry. The partnerships with Toyota, Aurora, and Continental mark a significant milestone in Nvidia’s journey to transform the multitrillion-dollar auto industry.
These global mobility leaders will leverage Nvidia’s accelerated computing and AI capabilities to develop next-generation highly automated vehicles. Toyota, the world’s largest automaker, will adopt the high-performance, automotive-grade Nvidia Drive AGX Orin system-on-a-chip (SoC), running the safety-certified Nvidia DriveOS operating system. This collaboration aims to deliver functionally safe, advanced driving assistance capabilities that redefine the future of transportation.
The majority of today’s auto manufacturers, truckmakers, robotaxi, and autonomous delivery vehicle companies are already developing on Nvidia’s Drive AGX platform and technologies. With cutting-edge platforms spanning from cloud-based training to simulation and compute in the car, Nvidia’s automotive vertical business is poised to reach approximately $5 billion in revenue by fiscal year 2026.
“The autonomous vehicle revolution has arrived, and automotive will be one of the largest AI and robotics industries,” said Huang. “Nvidia is bringing two decades of automotive computing, safety expertise, and its CUDA AV platform to transform the multitrillion-dollar auto industry.”
Aurora, Continental, and Nvidia announced a long-term strategic partnership to deploy driverless trucks at scale, powered by Nvidia Drive. This collaboration will integrate Nvidia’s accelerated compute running DriveOS into the Aurora Driver, an SAE level 4 autonomous-driving system that Continental plans to mass-manufacture in 2027.
Other mobility companies are adopting Nvidia’s Drive accelerated compute for their next-generation advanced driver-assistance systems and autonomous vehicle roadmaps. These include BYD, JLR, Li Auto, Lucid, Mercedes-Benz, NIO, Nuro, Rivian, Volvo Cars, Waabi, Wayve, Xiaomi, ZEEKR, Zoox, and many more.
Nvidia’s comprehensive suite of computing systems and AI software is essential for end-to-end autonomous vehicle development. The Nvidia Drive in-vehicle computer processes real-time sensor data, while the DGX systems train AI models and software stacks. The Nvidia Omniverse platform running on OVX systems tests and validates self-driving systems in simulation.
As the autonomous vehicle industry continues to evolve, Nvidia’s role as a leader will remain pivotal. With its strategic partnerships and cutting-edge technology, the company is poised to revolutionize the multitrillion-dollar auto industry, making transportation safer, more efficient, and sustainable for all.
