Rumors and leaks are starting to surface as Nintendo inches closer to unveiling its next-generation console, the Switch 2. Case manufacturer Dbrand has unveiled its latest accessory, the “Killswitch 2” case, which boasts an impressive level of detail and accuracy.
According to Dbrand’s CEO Adam Ijaz, the company has conducted a “3D scan of the real hardware,” resulting in dimensions that not only match but also surpass those of the current Switch OLED. The new console is expected to be larger and taller than its predecessor, with a more substantial kickstand that measures around half the console’s height.
This combination, combined with an impressive diagonal measurement of the cover glass, suggests an 8-inch screen – a significant upgrade from the current 7-inch display. One of the most intriguing features of the Switch 2 is its new second button on the right Joy-Con under the Home button. The left Joy-Con still retains the original capture button, but it’s unclear whether this “C” button now serves as a camera control or operates differently altogether.
Dbrand’s measurements also reveal that the joysticks stand at an impressive 6.27mm tall and the D-pad and ABXY buttons protrude by 1.57mm. The back triggers extend by a substantial 14.1mm, suggesting a more immersive gaming experience.
While Dbrand seems confident in its case design, Ijaz acknowledges that he’s “genuinely unsure” about the console’s release date. However, he estimates it will be available in late March or early April, although this is not officially confirmed by Nintendo.
The potential TV dock and screen type – LCD or OLED – remain unknown, but Dbrand believes an upgrade in display quality is on the horizon. The company’s decision to reveal so much about the Switch 2 is surprising, given Nintendo’s notorious litigious nature. However, this is consistent with the company’s marketing strategy.
Recent videos from SwitchUp have corroborated some of these findings, showcasing a mockup sent by a case manufacturer that aligns with Dbrand’s design. A notable addition is the second USB-C port on top of the mockup, which could potentially enable simultaneous charging while in tabletop mode – an innovative feature for the current Switch.
As Nintendo prepares to unveil its next-generation console, these leaks and rumors offer a tantalizing glimpse into what’s to come. With the Switch 2 set to revolutionize portable gaming, gamers can’t help but wonder: is this the future of console design?
