Saronic Technologies has secured $600 million in funding, valuing the company at $4 billion. This massive influx of capital will enable Saronic to accelerate its plans for building Port Alpha, a cutting-edge shipyard designed to produce advanced autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) on an unprecedented scale.
The US Navy’s need to modernize its fleet by integrating unmanned systems with crewed platforms positions Saronic well to capitalize on this trend. With state-of-the-art ASV technology and expertise in industrial manufacturing, the company aims to address the critical shortage of shipbuilding capacity in the United States. By leveraging its innovative approach to design and production, Saronic aspires to create a new era of maritime superiority that ensures freedom of the seas for generations to come.
Notable achievements by Saronic include the development and delivery of its largest ASV, Corsair, and the acquisition of a 420,000 sq. ft. production facility. These milestones have solidified Saronic’s position as a leading player in the autonomous shipbuilding space.
Saronic’s CEO, Dino Mavrookas, has stated that his company’s core principle is to design vessels for autonomy from the ground up, with Port Alpha reflecting this approach. The new shipyard will utilize first-principles thinking and best practices from commercial manufacturing to redefine the production of ASVs in the US.
General Catalyst CEO Elad Gil led Saronic’s Series C round, which includes participation from General Catalyst. Gil emphasized the importance of investing in the US shipbuilding infrastructure, working with federal and state legislators to establish public-private partnerships that will develop the next-generation shipyard right here in America.
Paul Kwan, managing director of General Catalyst, highlighted the significance of Saronic’s mission, noting that unmanned systems have become true force multipliers in conflict zones. The company’s commitment to modernizing maritime resilience aligns with General Catalyst’s own mission to help defend the nation and its interests.
This significant investment will enable Saronic to rapidly expand its ASV fleet, addressing gaps in US shipbuilding capacity and strengthening national security. With Port Alpha as its flagship project, Saronic is poised to redefine the maritime landscape and cement its position as a leader in autonomous shipbuilding.
