Mahindra Group Unveils Strategic AI Initiative with Devendra Sharnagat at the Helm
The Mahindra Group has appointed Devendra Sharnagat as the Senior Vice President of its AI Division, marking an important milestone in the group’s commitment to harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) across its various businesses.
With a wealth of experience in data-driven decision-making and analytical project management, Sharnagat is well-positioned to lead Mahindra Group’s AI initiatives. His previous role as Chief Data and Analytics Officer at Mahindra Finance saw him spearhead data analytics functions that enhanced business efficiency and productivity.
Prior to joining Mahindra Finance, Sharnagat held senior roles at Direxions Marketing Services, HDFC Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank, where he developed a keen understanding of data-driven decision-making and analytical project management. At HDFC Bank, he managed analytical projects across various financial portfolios, including Liability Products, Direct Banking Channels, Premier Banking, Depository Services, Forex Services, and Prepaid Cards.
The launch of the dedicated AI unit by Mahindra Group in September is a significant step towards integrating AI into its business operations. By centralizing AI efforts at the corporate level, the division aims to provide support to all group companies, including Mahindra & Mahindra (automotive), Mahindra Lifespace (real estate), and Mahindra Holidays (hospitality).
Bhuwan Lodha, who previously led digital operations in Mahindra’s automotive business, will head the new AI division. Lodha emphasized the focus on consolidating AI initiatives, stating that “AI projects became side hustles for every IT team in every company. Now we are bringing it mainstream.” The AI division will also collaborate with Tech Mahindra, the group’s IT services arm, to leverage domain expertise and global innovations from startups and universities.
This strategic move is expected to position Mahindra Group as a leader in the adoption of AI technology across its businesses. With Sharnagat at the helm, the AI Division is poised to drive innovation and digital transformation across the organization, cementing its position as a major player in the Indian business landscape.
