Honeywell and NXP Semiconductors are revolutionizing the aviation industry with their groundbreaking collaboration on autonomous flying vehicles, which made its debut at CES 2025. The partnership brings together Honeywell’s extensive aerospace expertise with NXP’s cutting-edge computer architecture to accelerate the development of AI-driven aerospace technology.
The deal has already attracted attention from a prominent flying vehicle company, Vertical Aerospace, which is set to benefit from the innovative solutions being developed by Honeywell and NXP. At the NXP Pavilion at CES, the companies showcased their joint efforts with a captivating demonstration that left attendees eager for more.
At the heart of this partnership lies the Honeywell Anthem avionics cockpit demonstrator, featuring high-performance computer architecture courtesy of NXP. This synergy enables AI-driven aerospace technology, paving the way for electric aerial vehicles (AEV) and other next-generation aircraft to take flight. With Vertical Aerospace, Lilium, and other companies already in the fold, it’s clear that Honeywell and NXP are at the forefront of this transformative shift.
The collaboration has yielded significant advancements in large-area displays for next-generation cockpits, featuring high-resolution screens that prioritize visual clarity and system efficiency. For eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) vehicles, a scaled-down version is expected to be used, enhancing the travel experience by making it quicker, cleaner, and safer.
Honeywell’s chairman and CEO, Vimal Kapur, sees this partnership as a game-changer for industrial leaders looking to embrace autonomy. “Our industrial domain expertise combined with NXP’s best-in-class technology is a powerful accelerator for industrial leaders on the path to autonomy,” he said. “Working together, we are developing differentiated solutions and services that shape the future of automation, driving significant customer outcomes and fueling Honeywell’s growth.”
The Honeywell Anthem is believed to be the industry’s first cloud-connected cockpit system, offering faster data processing for real-time AI-driven insights in the air and on the ground. This technology has far-reaching implications, enabling pilots to focus on higher-level tasks while situational awareness increases.
Stuart Simpson, CEO of Vertical Aerospace, echoed these sentiments, stating, “By fulfilling the promise of advanced air mobility, electric aircraft like the VX4 represent a bold vision for the future.” He continued, “Honeywell Anthem has already proven to be a highly capable platform, and we’re excited to explore how its capabilities can be further enhanced by NXP’s advanced computing to lessen pilot workloads while increasing situational awareness. Together, we see opportunities to make travel quicker, cleaner and safer, supporting our shared vision to transform how the world moves.”
As the aviation industry continues to evolve, Honeywell and NXP are poised to play a pivotal role in shaping its future with their innovative partnership at the forefront, bringing us closer to a world where air travel is not only faster but also more sustainable.
