Google has introduced the “Help Me Create” feature in its productivity suite, specifically tailored for Google Docs users. This innovative tool leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline the process of writing long-form documents, complete with cover images, in-line visuals, stylized text, tables, and integrated content from Google Drive files.
With Help Me Create, users can generate comprehensive documents from scratch, eliminating the need for tedious planning and outlining. By providing a prompt, users can tap into the AI’s capabilities to produce detailed documents tailored to specific needs, such as marketing plans, event checklists, or project roadmaps. The feature’s core functionality revolves around generating structured documents with essential elements, including milestones, timelines, and actionable steps.
Users can outline their ideas, and the AI will take care of producing a well-structured document that meets their requirements. To get started, users can input specific descriptions of the document they want to create, pulling content directly from their Google Drive files by referencing files with @filename. Accessibility features include sample prompts to guide users who may be unsure of where to begin.
The rollout began today, with a full deployment expected by January 9, 2025. The feature will be available exclusively to Google Workspace users, accessible through a prominent button at the top of a new document or via the menu under File > New > Help Me Create. To help users get started, sample prompts and sample documents are being provided.
The introduction of this new feature aims to simplify long-form document writing, making it more accessible to a wider range of users. By harnessing the power of AI, Help Me Create promises to revolutionize the way people write documents, streamlining the process and reducing the burden on users. The feature’s limited scope – currently supporting only pageless documents in English – is expected to expand to personal Google accounts in the future.
