From City High To Coastal Calm: How I Traded Stress For Serenity In A Small Seaside Town

From the Fast Lane to a Peaceful Life
As a high-powered lawyer in London, I had it all – a high-paying job, a fast-paced environment, and a sense of success that came with it. However, beneath the surface, I was burning out. The long hours, the pressure to perform, and the constant stress had taken a toll on my mental and physical health. I felt lonely, exhausted, anxious, and lost – with my life solely defined by my career.
I hit rock bottom before realizing I needed to make a drastic change. I knew I couldn’t keep going on like that, so I made the bold decision to quit my job and leave London behind. The hardest part wasn’t the uncertainty of what the future held, but saying goodbye to a high-paying job – especially in a city like London, where the cost of living is high.
I prioritized my mental health over money and glory, starting therapy and a rigorous exercise regimen. This empowered me and gave me the clarity I needed to end the toxic relationship I had with my job. I needed nature to reconnect with myself, and I discovered the perfect place – Eastbourne, a small seaside town connected to London by direct train, with hiking trails, plenty of sunshine, and a thriving coffee culture.
At first, the transition was tough. I struggled to adjust to the slower pace of life, where everything was done at a more relaxed pace. But as I settled into my new routine, I began to appreciate the simple things – the sense of community, the beautiful scenery, and the opportunity to pursue my passions. I joined the local rowing club and a volunteer group, which helped me meet new people and feel more connected to the community.
One of the most surprising benefits of small-town life was the sense of balance it brought to my life. I was able to strike a balance between my work and personal life, taking on the necessary number of deals and clients to earn a living, while also having time for myself every day. The balance is what keeps me happy and healthy.
Looking back on my decision to leave London, I realize it was the best thing I ever did. I’ve never felt better physically, mentally, and spiritually. I’ve found peace, and I’ve discovered a new side of myself – one that’s more creative, more relaxed, and more at peace with the world. I don’t miss the old days at all.
Of course, I know that nothing is permanent, and I’ll need to take more action in my daily life at some point. But for now, I’m content to bask in the tranquility of Eastbourne, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the warmth of the community. It’s a feeling I never thought I’d experience, but it’s one I’m grateful for every day.
