Dodge Unveils Electric Challenger: A Muscle Car Revival With A Shocking Twist

Dodge has unveiled its first electric Charger muscle car, which marks a significant milestone in the brand’s journey towards an electrified future. The new Charger Daytona is not only a nod to the classic 1968 Charger but also showcases the company’s commitment to innovation and performance.

Matt McAleer, CEO of Dodge and SRT, explained that the development team was tasked with creating a car that would “make people uncomfortable” – a phrase that encapsulates the essence of a traditional muscle car. By offering both battery-electric and gasoline-powered variants, starting next year, customers will have a choice between two distinct driving experiences.

The new Charger Daytona’s design is a masterful blend of heritage and modernity. Scott Krueger, vice president for exterior design at Dodge, described the stylists’ aim as “heritage, not retro,” resulting in a sedan shape that evokes the classic 1968 Charger without directly copying its lines. The LED strip of daylight running lights and the signature “R-wing” at the front ensure that the design feels thoroughly modern and refined.

Measuring 206.9 inches (5,248 mm) long, 78.1 inches (2,028 mm) wide, and 58.9 inches (1,497 mm) tall, the Charger Daytona is built with American roads and parking spaces in mind, reflecting Dodge’s focus on practicality and comfort. The car’s wider dimensions result in a spacious interior, with ample room for two full-size adults in the back seat, thanks to its generous 121-inch (3,074 mm) wheelbase.

The interior of the Charger Daytona features doors and dash that are backlit via LEDs, offering customers 64 different color options. This results in an immersive driving experience that feels both luxurious and connected to the road. The addition of a hatchback provides easy access to the cargo area, further enhancing the car’s practicality.

Dodge’s decision to introduce a four-door version of the Charger next year will offer customers even more flexibility and versatility. With its impressive interior space, generous wheelbase, and modern design, the new Charger Daytona is set to become an iconic muscle car in its own right. As Dodge continues to push the boundaries of innovation and performance, this electric Charger muscle car is a game-changer for the brand.
