Stanley Insulated Mugs Recalled Due to Burn Hazards, Millions Affected

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a voluntary recall for approximately 2.6 million of its Switchback and Trigger Action insulated travel mugs due to reports of burn injuries caused by defective lids. The recall affects these models, but excludes the popular Quencher series of mugs.

According to the CPSC, 38 burn injuries worldwide have been confirmed, resulting from the lid threads shrinking after exposure to heat and torque, which can lead to the lid detaching during use. Additionally, 91 reports of defective products have been received worldwide, with two injuries occurring in the United States.

The products were sold by major retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target, and others between June 2016 and December this year, with a price range of $20 to $50. Homeowners are advised to immediately stop using their insulated travel mugs and contact Stanley 1913 for assistance.

To facilitate a smooth transition, Stanley is offering free replacement lids for affected customers. To identify if your product is affected, customers can check the product identification number at the bottom of their mug on an online portal where they can register for a free replacement lid.
