Android Unveils Groundbreaking Bluetooth Tracker Feature Gives Users Control Over Device Location

Android is introducing a new “Find Nearby” feature that allows users to locate unknown Bluetooth trackers, taking a significant step forward in tracking security. This update comes as Apple has already implemented similar measures to alert users about nearby Bluetooth trackers.

The feature will enable users to pinpoint the location of unknown trackers by clicking on a notification, displaying a map of the tracker’s last known movements. If the user cannot find the tracker, Find Nearby will connect their device to the tracker over Bluetooth, displaying a shape that fills in as they approach it.

A new “Temporarily Pause Location” feature will block location updates with trackers for up to 24 hours when an unknown tracker is detected. This pause will prevent any unwanted parties from tracking the user’s movements without their knowledge or consent. The feature was first introduced by Google in July 2023 as part of its efforts to improve device security.

Google has rolled out these updates alongside other measures to enhance user safety, including automatic notifications when an unwanted Bluetooth tracker is detected on a device running Android 6.0 and above.
