Adobe’s Reflection Removal Tool Revolutionizes Photo Editing with AI-Powered Technology
Adobe has made available its groundbreaking Reflection Removal tool, aptly dubbed “See Through” in its early stages, to elevate the photography experience. This innovative technology was first unveiled at Adobe’s Max conference last year under the codename “Sneak.” By leveraging advanced AI capabilities, the tool distinguishes between two distinct scenes within an image – one with a reflection and the other without.
The Reflection Removal tool analyzes differences in content, white balances, and sharpness to separate the reflections from the original images. This is achieved by analyzing indoor versus outdoor settings, which are often indicative of these elements. By distinguishing between the two, the tool enables users to remove unwanted reflections and reveal stunning vistas behind them.
The AI model powering this technology was trained on an extensive database of images devoid of reflections, which were then merged and manipulated to create millions of artificially reflected photographs. This complex training process allowed the model to learn how to extract the original image from a combined photo, a feat that is both impressive and insightful.
While the Reflection Removal tool has shown remarkable promise, Adobe cautions that it may struggle with particularly strong or complex reflections that challenge the viewer’s perception of what lies within the frame. Nevertheless, for photographers seeking to enhance their images without sacrificing detail, this cutting-edge technology offers unparalleled potential.
To access the Reflection Removal tool, users can open Adobe Camera Raw and navigate to the Technology Previews section of its Preferences Panel. There, they can enable the New AI Settings and Features Panel in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Bridge, facilitating seamless integration with other Adobe applications.
Currently, the tool is limited to RAW images, but support for JPEGs and HEICs is planned for future updates. With Reflection Removal, photographers can now unlock their full creative potential, freed from the constraints of distracting reflections. Whether capturing breathtaking vistas or intimate portraits, this innovative technology empowers artists to reveal their vision in all its glory – without compromise.
