NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has taken its IE5+ synchronous motor line to the next level by introducing a new 112 frame size, further expanding the power range of compact permanent magnet synchronous motors. This addition not only enhances the capabilities of NORD’s existing IE5+ motor lineup but also provides users with more flexibility and options for various applications.
IE5+ PMSM technology uses high-strength permanent magnets to create a constant magnetic field, eliminating the need for external excitation. This results in extremely high efficiency of up to 95%, high power density, and significant energy savings.
The introduction of the new 112 frame size extends the power range of IE5+ PMSM motors from 0.5 to 15.0 hp and torque up to 387 lb-in. This new addition will enable users to tackle more demanding applications, such as heavy machinery, industrial automation, and other high-performance scenarios.
IE5+ synchronous motors deliver constant torque and efficiency over a wide speed range, even at partial load and low speeds. This unique characteristic enables reduced system variants, minimized administrative expenses, and leaner manufacturing, logistics, storage, and service processes. By adopting this technology, users can optimize their systems for better performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
NORD’s IE5+ motors are available in ventilated versions (TEFC) with a finned housing that provides advanced heat dissipation, ideal for continuous duty intralogistics applications. The smooth body, non-ventilated versions (TENV), are available in motor sizes 71 and 90 and offer a corrosion-resistant option in hygienic environments such as food and beverage applications.
In addition to considering material efficiency, IE5+ motors also significantly exceed the highest defined energy efficiency class. This results in considerable reductions in their energy consumption and CO2 emissions. By choosing NORD’s IE5+ PMSM motors, users can not only minimize their environmental impact but also lower their operational costs.
NORD’s IE5+ motors feature an innovative 8-pole Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) design that reduces the number of active motor parts, resulting in material savings regarding the sheet metal and magnets. The stator can also be manufactured with single-tooth winding, reducing the use of copper in the winding head.
NORD’s drive solutions are always configured to individual application requirements, creating the ideal system for each project. IE5+ synchronous motors further expand their system capabilities with compatibility across their product range of gear units and electronic control projects.
The new 112 frame size comes with a standard incremental encoder, but it also offers additional options, including an integrated mechanical brake, motor connectors, absolute or magnetic encoders, and various flange mountings for gear unit attachment as well as direct mounting. These features ensure that users can tailor their systems to suit specific needs and applications.
NORD has developed digital twins for system development based on its myNORD configuration. Users can now request individually created drive systems as simulation models, allowing them to test and optimize their systems before deployment. This innovative approach enables users to reduce prototyping costs, improve efficiency, and accelerate time-to-market.
NORD DRIVESYSTEMS develops and produces a wide range of drives for more than 100 industries and gear units for torques from 10 Nm up to over 282 kNm. It also supplies electric motors in the power range of 0.12 kW to 1,000 kW, as well as the required power electronics with frequency inverters of up to 160 kW.
NORD’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction is evident in its expanded product lineup and drive solutions. With digital twins and myNORD configuration at the forefront of system development, users can expect even more efficient and optimized systems in the future.
