The Texas-built sensor has been updated with new hardware features, including DLS 2 light-sensor support and field-proven use in wheat fertilizer and fungicide research.
The relaunched RedEdge-MX targets a wide range of customers, from precision agriculture professionals to researchers and environmental monitoring experts. In this trial, AGRON used the RedEdge-MX to monitor the effects of different fertilizer applications on wheat crops. The results were impressive, with the sensor providing accurate data on crop health and soil moisture levels.
In the fertilizer trial, AGRON collected seven datasets from 15 different wheat species, pairing the RedEdge-MX with a Soil Plant Analysis Development (SPAD) chlorophyll meter. Treatments ran from 0 to 280 kilograms per hectare (about 250 pounds per acre) in 40 kilogram steps. The sensor data supported the development of the AGRON Chlorophyll Index, which provides a reliable measure of crop health.
A separate fungicide trial covered 186 plots across winter wheat, spelt, triticale, barley, and durum wheat. In this trial, the RedEdge-MX chlorophyll maps identified powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis) infection focal points, allowing AGRON to separate resistant plots from susceptible ones.
